Dunlop RS3 - beauty shots

For the new Dunlop tire "Roadsmart III" the team of vision control created a promotional live-action film. The film is supported by 3D explanation pieces, where I was involved in the look development and the production of several shots. This is a quick edit of the shots I have created.

If you want to see the explanation part, please watch this movie:

Pipsicle Closeup Slices

These are two closeups of my latest Pipsicle version.
It's a nice style that can be transferred to any solid 3D object with variations in spacing an thickness.

Dunlop RS3 - Look Development

For the "Train The Trainer" event by Dunlop we had to create several small spots that show the advantages of the new Road Smart 3 tire. These spots contained real-life footage and a computer animated part. So for the computer graphics we had to find a style that would reference the landscape in the filmed footage while being abstract enough to be understood as "illustrated".

This was the first landscape scheme that really worked for our purposes and showed me that I was heading in the right direction.

Since the majority of our film consisted of a rocky landscape, this was my next step.

After that I quickly put together an abstract tree design and added it to the shot.

As the tree concept turned out to be too cartoony, I went on to a more detailed design.

So this was my final tree asset with two different tree designs and two shading styles. The trees were also scaled differently to create more variation.

I put everything together, smoothed out the landscape and reworked the geometry as well as the materials. This would have been the basic look of the final shot.

Unfortunately, we had to check the weather report with Ollie Williams, who said:

So this is what the clip looked like in the very end. We also had to change the color of the landscape slices in other (sunnier) shots, because the bright metal surface would be easily associated with snow.

Well, it's all about the process :D

Pipsicle Styles

This is a small character I created to explore new visual concepts. It varies from transforming the 3D object into a 2D style to completely altering the geometry. Inspiration comes from early Street Fighter sprites, interior design, serigraphy, pixel art, kawaii, zombie apocalypse and fooling around.
